Alban Arthuan
The winter solstice, which occurs on December 22nd this year, is the shortest day of the year. The winter solstice was known by the Celts as 'Alban Arthuan'. The name 'Arthuan' is related to the Arthurian legend,
as King Arthur was supposed to have been born on the Winter Solstice in Castle Tintagel, in Cornwall.
Alban Arthuan was a celebration of the returning solar light. An oaken Yule log was burnt to honour the forthcoming Sun child and the Goddess in her Mother aspect.
